What I do is to find a project that I want to do, or go out and help someone else with a task that needs to be done. I have always felt better and appreciated what I do have. as far a a project goes - I write in my blogs, or I go through all the things that I haven't done yet and begin working on it. Sometimes even just reading a book that will provide some inspiration to move forward.

[...] If you can associate with any of the sin or vices listed above and you want to remove them from your daily life then you can do so by focusing of one at a time. I have written about changing a habit in a month previously in my article, How to Focus your Enthusiam, and you can use the same technique here. For the next 30 days focus on one sin and everyday day try to concentrate on doing the opposite of that particular vice. You could try meditating on the positive things every morning, writing yourself little notes that you can refer back to throughout the day to motivate you. You could even write a positive statement and set it as your PC’s screen saver. [...]

Love your website and have been a subscriber for some time. This post is so close to my heart, I just had to pop out of my lurking to say something. Great Post! It truly solidifies why Star Wars is more than just a cheesy pop culture phenomenon.

[...] If the boy above had read my last post The Pre-Occupation with You he would firstly find it exceptionally hard to understand the concept of Ego and secondly his already low levels of confidence would have been shattered reading that he had an Ego and that he wasn’t the centre of the universe. It’s funny but all those years of self-pity and feelings that nobody liked me were actually driven by my Ego and nothing else. Oh yeah, sorry by the way the little boy was me. [...]

This is a great post, I especially like the way it started and I agree with your opinion 100%. One section caught my eye though and I thought I'd add something...

..."If everyone chose to smile during the day rather than being miserable and depressed then we would all love each other a little bit more. If everyone said thank you or sorry when necessary and truly meant it then you would find it hard to disagree that the world would be a better place."...

What you seem to be talking about her is being a sincere person. By that I mean truly happy and concerned for other not falsely smiling and repressing your feelings for a false outward facade. My experience is that the majority of people are unnerved by sincere people. While you may have a positive impact on the strangers of the world those you interact with daily will be suspicious of your motives since theirs is a selfish and self-centered world.

That being said your last paragraph and guide to making a difference is right on target! And despite my above realism it is a way of life I too wish more people would embark on.

Lovely article, Ben!
A short while ago I read an article about an American pastor who suggested wearing a rubber wristband. His suggestion is that when you notice having a negative thought, you change it to the other side.

Well - today I noticed I was feeling a bit grumpy and started trying out the wristband idea. Oh dear...that rubber band started jumping from wrist to wrist!
