Motivation Part 3: Why do you do what you do?
January 22nd, 2008

“I never worked a day in my life – it was all fun!” Thomas Edison
Why do you do what you do?
Why do you do what you do? Why are you on the path that you are on? Did you choose it or was it chosen for you? Do you think you have chosen your life appropriately or are you still doing something that lost its appeal a long time ago?
We have already discussed the idea of resources vs. resourcefulness when it comes to people achieving their goals. What I would like to talk about in this post is the idea of justifying why you do what you do.
That can be easily done but when people normally justify their lives they usually generate a list of excuses as to why they do what they do rather than doing something that they really wanted. Conversations on this usually start with the phrase “I wanted to do such and such but for this reason I became a…”
Finding motivation from your passion?
You’ll never become motivated to do anything if you don’t really want to do it and are passionate about it. If you’re passionate enough about something you’ll be motivated to do it. If you have no passion for it and you don’t want you to do it (deep down) you’ll never find the motivation to do it.
Motivation is found in what you are passionate about. How many of us stumble through life in a job, in relationships, and involved with things that we don’t enjoy? Why? Do the things you really enjoy, that you love, that you are passionate about! You’ll have no problem finding motivation for these things. You’ll probably find that if you look hard enough at your life that you realise that you’re actually making very little difference in the world if you are in a job or following a career or being in a relationship that you don’t love and that doesn’t make you happy.
Find your passion and follow it. Motivation will flow easily then.

“Why do you do what you do?” May be its hard to believe but I actually enjoy what I do for a living. Besides the fact that I get paid for it, I like to motivate and inspire others!
